Course Centre

Our key goals for the course centre are to offer comprehensive information and care for mother, parent and child. Currently, the Vita Nova Breastfeeding Centre offers the following courses and workshops. We are continually trying to expand our course selection and (if you wish – please let us know!) would like to keep you informed of this. We happily welcome babies and/or young children who aren’t yet able to be separated from their mother, to the courses and workshops that we organise ourselves. This may vary for the courses that are run by third parties, so please contact us in advance for more information.

Breastfeeding – The Best Start

In Breastfeeding – The Best Start, all the ins and outs of breastfeeding are addressed. When it comes to nursing an infant, it has been scientifically proven that breastfeeding is the best for both baby and mother. In addition to the advantages of breastfeeding, we also focus on the best ways to breastfeed, which challenges you may encounter and how to deal with these challenges. Besides this, we also discuss the role of the father, contraception and which breastfeeding support groups can assist you.

The course consists of three evening sessions and each month a new course begins. Please see the calendar page for dates. It is possible to follow a fourth evening session. Amongst other things, this covers: when you start work, how you wean and the role of the father.

Workshop “Combining Breastfeeding with Work”

This course consists of a single evening session for mothers who are returning to work after their maternity leave. The session focuses on women who breastfeed and are starting back at work after maternity leave. We provide information on your rights as a working mother and what options you have in relation to breastfeeding. Topics that are covered will be:

  • If you exclusively breastfeed, what does that mean for expressing milk?
  • How your baby will get used to a bottle and how to store your milk.
  • If you would prefer to wean, how do you do that?
  • Can you supplement breastfeeding with formula?

All these questions and more will be answered during this session.

Workshop  “Go to Sleep Little Baby”

Workshop “Baby-led introduction of solids”

Workshop “Welcome to baby-wearing land” – Introduction to baby wearing

Many mothers, including ourselves, have always enjoyed carrying our children.  Your child is safe, protected and as a mother, you have your hands free to do other things. It is therefore obvious what the benefits are. This workshop is given by our baby wearing consultant Tal Spanjer. She offers an introduction to safe and ergonomic carrying of your child and explains the different methods you can use to carry your child and the different carrying systems on offer. Experience of child-wearing is not necessary and at the conclusion of the session it is possible to rent a carrier so that you can try it out in your own time, in your own environment, with your own child.

Private Lessons

It is always possible to request a private session, for example for the expectant parents’ course, Breastfeeding – The Best Start. This course consists of two two-hour evening sessions.

The workshops Combining Breastfeeding with Work and Go to Sleep Little Baby and information sessions about using a breast pump are single evening sessions of two hours. If you would like another workshop as a private lesson, please contact us.
